Turner’s Syndrome

FACTS:

  • This is a disorder seen only in females due to a random error during the dividing of cells in the beginning of pregnancy.
  • Signs of this disorder are a short neck with a webbed appearance, short height, short fourth fingers and toes, low hairline on back of neck, and a lack of sexual development at puberty.
  • Heart Defects may be associated with this disorder.
  • Growth is usually normal until three years of age then slows.
  • These children are of normal intelligence
  • They sometimes may have problems with their kidneys

 

TREATMENT:

  • There is no medicine or surgery that can cure Turner’s Syndrome.
  • Children with Turner’s Syndrome should be treated the same as other children.
  • If children show signs of a heart defect or problems with urination they should be immediately seen by a doctor
